TEA

Oh tea, I am a lover of tea. I drink it every day, all day long. I’m what you might say is a tea snob. I love loose leaf tea and I vary my temperature of water and mix things up depending on the type of tea I’m making.

One of the oldest and most popular beverages in the last 2,000 years, is none other than tea. Making its début in China, it has influenced many people, and not just seen as an English pastime with cookies, but a go-to for many people all over the world.

Tea has so many incredible benefits, flavors, and can even lull you to sleep. The endless range of rainbow colors provide also a variety of tastes and the benefits. In fact, the benefits are still being learned. Tea has a left a remarkable imprint on our world and it makes me smile. I remember being about 6 months pregnant with Olivia. My husband and I were doing our Seattle remodel, living with friends in a Ballard town home, our late dog, Walter was living with my parents, we both were working 80 hours a week and there was only one thing I would sacrifice $4 once a week for….you may have already guessed it, it was tea! But this tea wasn’t just loose leaf tea, it was chai tea. I have a tea scale range that is throughout the day/month of when I drink this and what I feel I need. I was working in a skilled nursing facility and the director of nursing saw me looking out the window for about 3 minutes and drinking my tea.  She looked at my curiously and asked what I was doing. I escaped my ‘zone out moment’ and shared, “I’m having my cup of heaven.” She smiled and let me continue to enjoy a few silent minutes before the rush of the day continued.

Tea, just like food, can transform moments and create calm. This may be due to the fact that it contains L-theanine, an amino acid that you can only get through tea or supplementation. The effects range, but some studies indicate that it can help focus, lower feelings of anxiety (1), assist as a sleep aide (1), improved cognitive function (2). Now, enjoy this beautiful green tea and wait to receive all the beautiful health benefits unfolding in your body! Cheers!
