It’s a Leap Year. What to do with Those Extra 24-Hours

Person jumping from boulder to boulder in sunset

Are you like me and wish there were more hours in the day to accomplish everything you want? Well, a leap year falls once every 4 years, does this mean my long request for more time actually exists!?!? Me: “I WISH I had more time!” My imaginary Genie: “Granted.”

Well….it is more time for 2024, but today seems like any other Thursday and everyone else is still working their same schedule. I’m not doing those house chores, cleaning, folding laundry, writing more, reading just a little longer, taking a break, sleeping in an extra 15 minutes…I don’t know if I should be thrilled with this “bonus day” or be humbled by my request for more time.

Needless to say, my initial theory that my request was granted has shifted to the mindset that each day is a gift. And today, instead of grinding through like any other day, I’m going to just enjoy what unfolds (even if I don’t necessarily like it). My challenge for you, what are you going to do to “stop and smell the flowers” with this “extra day?”

Extra Time Ideas:

  • Try a new recipe

  • Clean up your garden

  • Plant a new plant

  • Go for a walk

  • Read a book

  • Hug your family a little longer

  • Drink a cup of tea and watch what happens out your window

  • Try some yoga poses

  • Hit the sauna (goal 10 minutes)

  • Take a bath like Cleopatra

  • Scrub your body with some clean home ingredients

  • Enjoy an orange & make use of rinds

Whatever unfolds before you with these extra 24 hours, may it bring up feelings of love and support. Happy leap year!
